I always sat in an inconspicuous place and carefully draped a small blanket over my shoulder, but I would feed my baby where ever he or she got hungry. Breastfeeding mothers and babies shouldn't have to stay cooped up at home because anyone else has issues with the main reason women have breasts.
My son once said to me as we sat in a booth at a restaurant, and I was getting situated to feed his baby sister, "Are you going to do that HERE?" and I asked where else I should do it. He suggested the restroom, to which I replied, "Would YOU want to eat in the restroom?" He saw my point. ;-)
