Thats good, at least you know where to look. It actually has to suck bigtime for him to hide like that, makes you wonder if your 10 grand is all that he is worrying about, guess there has to be more to it.
Since you're in CA and he is obviously in CA under his GF's name, is there no telephone-book, or a register of residence in case you have her name? A call or letter to the register of residence (thats what its called in germany, no idea what it is in CA) often does wonders...
Anyways, good luck getting back what he owes you with interest... or anything at all
