But in my experience, if you send your stuff through over night UPS and right down your mini-dv tapes are gifts, they don't usually stop the package.

My problem has been returning tapes. Last year the US customs added a new system where on tapes with content (even those you are returning to clients) that you are obligated to declare all of the content on the tape, make a list of what is on the tapes, run time, etc. Further (and this is the kicker) you have to declare that the material is not obscene. However, as obscenity is decided on community standards, and that the courriers and post office cannot say where the tapes will be reviewed, it is a very risky move to make such a declaration.
Imagine in all the tapes are reviewed in Salt Lake City. Pretty much anything past kissing would be obscene.
I stopped doing video work for any american customer (for adult material) as a result of this... it is a royal pain in the ass.
