10 miles distance, no red lights
70 MPH = 8 min 36 sec
60 MPH = 10 min
50 MPH = 12 min
45 MPH = 13 min 18 sec
Think about that for a second. The difference between 50 and 70 is just 3 and a half minutes. One song on the radio.
If you increase it to a longer drive, 50 miles with no stopping:
80 MPH = 37 min 30 sec
65 MPH = 46 min
Just 8.5 minutes saved.
Now consider this. The death rates for each change in speed on the human body.
A head on collision with another car at 50 MPH gives you a 20% chance of death. While 70 MPH (remember, just a few minutes saved) leaves you with a 90% death rate.
But it only happens to other people, right?
