My parents were 2 pack a day smokers. My Dad smoked Camel non filter. Way back before we knew all the harm smoking does, I was a kid in elementary school and my science teacher gave us a demonstration on smoking. He pulled out a white handkerchief and smoked a cig through it. When he was done there was a big nasty tar stain on the handkerchief and he told us that's what goes into your lungs from just one cig. He then showed us how the lungs work and how all that tar affects them. I then could see and realize the the effect it was having on my parents. That one lesson was all I needed to keep me from smoking
Now, with all we know about smoking, it blows my mind that young kids will choose to smoke.

Amazing how one good lesson in school can affect someone positivly for life. I can still remember the slide show of STDs they showed us in health class, horrible, graphic imagies. And guess what? I didn't nail one random girl without wearing a condom in my entire life. Neither did any of my friends from that class.
If I had been in one of those "abstanince only" courses, I'd probably have herpes and three or four illigitamate children right now.
