Emo is short for "Emotional Hardcore". About 6 years ago, there seemed to be a shift in the punk community. Instead of DIY ethics and political lyrics about society, government, and personal priorities, punk started singing about...you guessed it....

The punks found their soft side and realized that they weren't getting laid either, and they started writing songs about it. Combine this with the re-emergence of over-produced heavy metal chords and an unpublicized sponsorship by several mascara companies, and you have Emo.
