YES.
At first the doctors were thinking that they could do the surgery using a piece of sythetic bone on her heel. After she went through all the preliminaries and checks, they decided that they needed to take a bone graft from her hip for the best chance to properly get her foot all healed up. The heel and foot injuries are from a motorcycle accident that happened quite a while ago, this is the third time they've had to operate to mend things. This is something she's had to live with for a number of years now, and with more than her fair share of pain.
That's what really sucks.
I hope that this is the LAST time and operation she has to go through. And I hope that after all of this is said and done she doesn't have to be in constant pain and hobbling around on crutches every few months. This time she not only has to live with the foot pain, now she has to heal up from having surgery to take a chunk of bone from her hip as well.
I'm not sure of the exact schedule, but I think she's probably going to be in the hospital through Friday, and be back home this weekend if everything goes well. There probably is time to send her some nice flowers at the hospital, and if anyone needs the hospital addy feel free to hit me up by email or icq (in my sig file).
And of course, get well emails are strongly encouraged too. Those well wishes can be sent to....
