That's another interesting comment from the point of view of a non-show goer in respect of this industry, because I doubt that most trade shows in other industries even expect the "average" participant in their businesses to attend.
Adult shows, with the girls and parties, will pull in a lot more visitors than stands of books or even the latest cars, but by increasing attendance, you do not change the makeup of the industry itself: webmasters running small and medium operations will still be the vast majority. Factor in too that many who think seriously about their time are unlikely to attend regularly (unless they are exhibitors) and I have always been surprised that shows are apparently productive enough for there to be near as many as there are.
Between the three industries in which I was involved, show attendance could get really out of hand, so I had a simple rule: I only went to the first show in each business each year, for which someone offered to cover the cost end to end. Then I filled up my diary as much as I could without actually taking the p*ss out of my host
