Will doing other things on your computer while it is burning a DVD fuck up the DVD?

some of the dvds i burn are great all the way through, and some start fucking up like in the middle or second half...skipping and shit. i'm thinking it's because i do so much shit on the computer while it's copying/burning. is that why?
