Is it a direct of incident light meter?

There should be settings for iso(film speed), shutter?

If you set those, and hit the big button, then FLASH your lights, it'll tell you what aperature the lights are set at. like, F8? F5.6, etc etc. Set your aperature on your lens to that, and you should have proper/decent exposure. I think. I've only had to use a light meter, like, once.
