But seriously, I agree with what a lot of others above have said. You get just about everything you could want on one site for Free!

Mad customizability (I think this is a huge factor)
Easy search for old/new friends (For Free!)
And... the cool kids are doing it.
Especially for teens, the free part plays a big role. What other sites can they join that have all that and they don't have to ask the 'rents for cash?
