If you really think that, you are to used to seeing reps as just board whores, icq spammers, and show junkies. Those types really bring a bad rep to being a rep in my opinion.
A good rep brings much more to the table.
Be it traffic, contacts, knowledge, experience, or just plain old grunt work. They often will go beyond just gathering new affiliates. They will also go through the stats, talk with dormant accounts. They may also design, code, write, and a wide assortment of other tasks.
Sometimes a smaller program may bring on someone with much more experience for a short or long period of time, usually on a salary or salary plus commission to help guide the ship and give them insight that could take years of hands on experience to learn.
