Reading is a good escape for that. One summer I read all the Utopia / Dystopia novels I could get my hands on...for me it was interesting that even in literature someone couldn't come up with a "perfect" society in my eyes...even the authors of the books couldn't completely create perfection. A short list:

Anthem - Ayn Rand
Erewhon - Samuel Butler
Utopia - Thomas Moore
Fahrenheit 451 - Bradbury
The Republic - Plato
...then a bunch of books you probably read in highschool, Brave New World, 1984, Animal Farm, etc.

It's just interesting to see what people think is the Utopia / Dystopia type society.
