However really the only way to prevent no shows, is to basically build a name for your self. Although I have never seen it done in this industry, it is something that is done in Mainstream and works very well. They hype the shit of a photographer or Director and you are lucky just to work with the person, and if you have attitude or become flakey they will take you completely out of the industry and you can go flip burgers at Burger King.
