Chris.. I think everyone has problems with no show.
From my experience its like this:
FIRST TIMERS / TEST SHOOTS:
The biggest problem are the first-timers, picked up either online, ads, or street. Only around 20 % of these come to the test shoot.
Models referred by other models who already do work for me: - 40% come on test shoot.
PRODUCTION SHOOTS:
My own models: 95% come to the shoot, unless they're out of modelling for good (and this is mostly due to the fact that they got a boyfriend or some shit like that)
Models booked thru agency: - 90% come to shoot, however to actually close a deal with retards from agency is a pain in the ass.
In my case I manage to get the first-time models pretty stable after the test shoot (in most cases they have never done any modelling job at all before).
Here are some tips that I use to reduce the flake effect:
Book 1-2 days prior to actual shoot date.
Pay a bit over the agreed rate (everyone likes free cash).
Book for a decent volume of work (more work per day --> less no show events)
The "flaking" happens mostly becuase of these 2 elements imho:
- not really up to the job - mentally (first time models who havent posed nude before)
- too little cash involved (professionals sometimes agree on booking date, then if they get a better offer on same date from someone else, they cancel the first shooting)
Alternatively I see a way to make a 100% no flake model system. Get them all on crack and get permit from the gouverment to license the content shooters for crack resale. Problem will be solved. A shitload of models, no flaking, and the state will make a few bux of the regulated crack industry.
