Uh, apple makes a shitload of money off of the songs they sale. Apple gets around 35% of the money from each song sold ($0.3465), Record Labels get the other 65% ($0.6435) of the cheese, of which the artist of the song only gets around 11 cents, or around 17.09% of the Record Labels profits. So the artist does most of the work in the scenario, puts his soul into his project, and gets the smallest amount possible.

Anyways, every million songs sold by Apple makes them $346,500 gross, and considering they have sold over a billion songs ($346,500,000 gross) and millions more are being sold daily, I really think Apple is making some decent cash with iTunes
