The best pinball machine is from Williams and is called Medieval Madness, it was one of the last machines they made, it's also the most expensive one, 5 to 7 K for a machine.
A good pinball machine costs around 3000 $ in the states, they are way more cheap here in Europe. I might get one myself but they are hard to maintain in good clean shape, parts are very expensive (300$ for a plastic ramp) and if you have to pay a guy each time something is broken it's going to cost you a lot of money.
I have a dedicated arcade cabinet, they are also great to have and you can get parts at decent prices if something needs replacement.
If you want a new machine, stern seems to be the best around.
When you buy a machine today and keep it in good order it will only increase in value over the years, 20 years from now you will be owning a very pricy jukebox.
