Tennis actually is called tennis for a logical reason.
It used to be a game played by rich french people and aristocrats, also the french royal family (others also), but they popularized the sport.
Initially, it was polite to say "Tenez" everytime you hit the ball.
Tenez is french for "here you go" or "I am handing it to you", referring to the ball.
Of course, besides the french, most people couldn't pronounce "tenez" properly and it was deformed to "tennis".
Next time, do your research.
