The police needed an arrest and a scapegoat more than anything right now. Arresting these guys today put a lot of people at ease
Perception of safety is what drives law enforcement. We could overthrow over the police at any time. That's why Bush has 2 go 2 war with Iraq cause we couldn't get Bin Laden and there's no 'closure' on our safety there, he needed a diversion. The perception of safety says Bush, law enforcement, etc. have it under control. But if everyone went crazy at 8:00pm tonight, we could bring the whole country down before midnight. And the trial is of no use for these guys. CNN has already executed them. Their faces are plastered worldwide. Say they're not gulity (i.e. Richard Jewell in Olympics bombing), it doesn't matter because they're lives are ruined.
Oh well, enough ranting for me....gotta go watch Arlington Rd. and Conspiracy Theory!

I'm not surprised at all. a) The police engage in disinformation all the time. The information they give out is the information they want the CRIMINAL to know, not what they want us to know. b) All that other information came from eye witness observation which is notoriously bad (circumstantial evidence usually actually proves more reliable). c) Just because a very common vehicle was seen around one or more of the incidents, it doesn't follow with any degree of necessity that this is anything more than coincidence. d) It's absurd to think that the police arrested these two merely to appear to have done something. This would be fruitless, because if these guys don't account for "the sniper," he can prove he still exists by shooting some more people.
