When meeting someone for the first time have an out already planned and tell her about it upfront. "I can meet for drinks on Thursday around 6:00 but I may have to pick up my sister at the airport around 7:30". If things are going well then you can always say that your sister found a ride (or something like that).
Make it a public place in YOUR comfort zone.
Quite well lit is recommended.
Many tables have a seat facing the door and a seat facing a wall. When that happens I prefer the seat facing the wall because I'm not distracted by hotter chicks walking in the door.
Remember, My Space and any dating service takes off 10 to 20 pounds so don't expect a goddess.
