I'm bumping this quote because it says so much.
However, I'll also add that if an "advanced" species visited us, perhaps it'd be easier to just body-snatch our leaders and make them act enough stupid, in a way, that most of the population votes for them because, like Pleasurepays mentioned in another thread, thinking is such a "herculean" effort for most people. Thus a leader on the level of the masses that are too lazy to think is a perfect candidate.
