I forgot to add they are also very good at hiding... you only need to whisper their name, and suddenly they are "on vacation", or on a "business trip" etc.
However if you stop looking for them, or do not talk about them, then they think the cost is clear, and resurface. Its an old trick they have learned from an ostrich with large feathers, which lay its head and neck flat on the ground until danger has passed.
