Having recently been in your shoes, and with a bit less cash to boot, I'd strongly advise you against investing the money into one venture. Especially if you don't know what you're getting into. Way too many people in this industry who will want to take you for a ride.
It may not sound exciting, but I'd recommend starting off with learning the ropes by submitting galleries and figuring out how the whole system works. It will then be easier for you to get a hang of the bigger picture and help invest your money better.
And if you have a technical degree to boot, then all you need is to kill laziness, get a schedule going, prepare for some downfalls, and get going. I can already tell ya that in the beginning only about 1 of 5 to 10 projects that you start will see a marginal degree of success. Key is to find what works best for ya and expand that particular area.
