It should make you feel a little bit better that the "chili thing" is probably among the less disgusting things she told me.
You should also know that I was a big fan of Wendy's chili. So my heart was broken, too.
Okay, you know that Wendy's big thing is that they make the burger when you order it. But during rush hour, you can imagine that occassionally they are dropping burgers on the grill a little faster than they are being ordered, just to stay ahead of the demand. Kinda like a "burger buffer".
So anyway, everyday there are "extra" burgers... meaning burgers that got cooked but not sold. At the end of the day, all these burgers are collected into a big plastic bucket. This bucket is supposed to go into the fridge every night. But sometimes, my ex informed me, it just sits next to the stove all night. After so much of this meat has been collected, to make what they call a "chiili batch", they dump it all into a big pot, add sauce, etc.... and it becomes -- tada!!! -- Wendy's Chili.
It's not quite Soylent Green, but it will give ya pause --

With all the Wendy's in the world the amount of leftover beef must be enormous.
I saw that movie Soylent Green. I didn't get the ending because he said people made Soylent Green and not the factory?
