The son of Anna Nicole?s former husband dies unexpectedly.
E. Pierce Marshall, the son of Anna Nicole Smith's now-deceased husband and Smith's rival for the Marshall fortune, died Tuesday at 67, his spokesman said.
In a written statement through spokesman David Margulies, Marshall's family said he passed away unexpectedly from a brief and aggressive infection.
"The family would politely request that their privacy be respected during this extremely difficult time as they grapple with this devastating loss," the statement said. "Mr. Marshall leaves behind a legacy of being, first and foremost, a remarkable husband, father and grandfather, a successful business visionary and a man of unrivaled perseverance and principle."
Marshall battled with Smith since his father, oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, died in 1995. The former Playboy Playmate was married to J. Howard Marshall for one year.
Since then, Smith won a $474 million judgment when her case was reopened last month, which was eventually cut to zero.
