Gay Pride Flag Stolen From Church Lawn

I am originally from Bucks and was raised Methodist. If I was back home and still religious I know where I would be going.

Gay Pride Flag Stolen From Church Lawn

WRIGHTSTOWN, Pa. -- A local church said that it is the victim of a hate crime.

Someone has stolen the rainbow gay pride flag that flew outside the Penns Park United Methodist Church in Wrightstown, Pa.

Church leaders said it put the flag up to declare that everyone is welcome, including members of the gay, lesbian and transgender community.

The church is one of the oldest churches in Bucks County and it has a mission to bring new visitors to its congregation.

The rainbow flag sat undisturbed for two months until it was taken last week.

"It was a symbol the fact that we are open and accepting," said Bill Miles, a church member.

"They are certainly welcome to have a difference of opinion, but I really don't like the idea that they come on to private property and they take something that doesn't belong to them," said the Rev. Ginny Miles.

Police are investigating the incident as a prank, but church leaders said they believe that whoever stole the flag is trying to send a message of hate and intolerance.

Miles said that her church is sending its own message back to the thief -- that the church would not be deterred.

"Jesus said 'Love your neighbor as yourself,' and he didn't say, 'If they're straight, if they're white." There were no conditions. It was just 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No conditions, period," Miles said.

Miles said that whoever stole the flag could return it with no questions asked. If it isn't returned, she said, the church plans to put up two flags where the original flag stood.
