the first night i went downtown with two of the other people in our group to
a club called 18 karat. we were the only 3 white people in there. to be around all the locals and have not one of them make even a crazy face at us, was relieving. we rocked out and made dance circles and was nothing but smile on everyone faces. not one sideways look. in the u.s. we woulda got "parking lot pimped" for being in the wrong place. of course there are several perspectives to any observation. i'm pretty world traveled and antigua is one positive place.
here in the u.s. if i go to 7-11 some asshole thinks i opened the door to hard on him.
antigua is a step back in time. all are equals, and they understand the harmony of coexisting without the requirement of a structured pecking order of "oh, you're cool cuz you have money', or "i can't hang with you, you like that kind of music".
some other countries that i go to really make me wonder how "advanced" are we really? the cost of being "advanced" taxes your well being and feeling good. i could sense that there.
