I have a shih tzu, and I fly with her all the time. I just put her in a bag and store her under the seat. It costs 50-75 dollars each way depending on the airline. If you have to stow your cats, that might be a little more stressful than being next to you and under the seat. I usually don't give my dog anything, but if the flight is over three hours I give her baby benadryl. The vet said that it's safe, and makes them a little less drowsy than sleeping pills. It comes in liquid or chewable - bubble gum and grape flavor:-)

I've flown from Miami to Las Vegas and back in 36 hours, and my dog did fine. I would think it depends on the animal though too, some pets get really stressed out in the car even. My dog just wakes up when the snack cart comes by. lol
