At the risk of delving into psychobabble, the problem is more likely
lack of confidence...
If you are used to money or status, you take them for granted and don't feel the need to make sure the world knows you have them. If you achieve either after a long, slow climb, they tend to sit on you quite comfortably too.
But when success and money come in a rush, very few people handle them well. Suddenly they can afford a lifestyle their friends cannot, yet they don't know how to handle themselves around people who are used to what they can now afford. Attitude becomes a substitute for confidence.
