maybe your going to the wrong places ... I would never let some touch me with that attitude .. you should find a good artist worth tipping ... I usually give an extra $50 .. if it's a $200+ tattoo which most are .. you should tip them because the shop takes a large % of the money and the artist has to buy there own supplies .. it really helps them out ..
