I would be grateful that I wasn't being starved to death in a concentration camp. I would be grateful that I didn't have to wonder if my skin was going to be turned into a lampshade if I died.
I would be grateful that I didn't have to endure anything such as people were subjected to when caught in the Korean War.
I would be grateful that I wasn't going to spend the next several years of my life in a tiny bamboo cage too small to stand up or lie down in, such as in Vietnam.
I would be glad that I was being fed decently.
If I were a spiritual man I would be glad that I was provided with the basics to worship with such as my holy book, even if it was desecrated once in a while for effect.
And I would find a pair of underwear on my head revolting and disgusting. But nothing to worry about very much.
Unless I was ignorant of the above. Then I would probably think it was just the worst thing that could possibly happen in the world.

So basically, your rational is that this is not the worst thing that war criminals have ever done, so it's acceptable? I'm trying to understand your ideas here but it's not easy. Keep in mind many of these people experienced much worse that just underwear on their heads, including rape and murder, as proven by statements made by US senators. What exactly are you defending and why?
