That's because we're about as good at football (soccer) as the Nigerians are at ice skating. If we were half decent at football we'd be all over this tourney like the rest of the world is. It would also help if more than 10% of Americans could name more than 5 foreign countries. Sadly most of us only know Britain and the two or three countries we're presently dropping bombs on.
Do you know the history of the world cup? Basically it was started because we didn't want to have football in the olympics when we were hosting them, because we blow donkey nuts at the it and we're poor loosers.

Half decent? Guess you skipped over the ranked fifth in the world part. Also thanks for the update on the failures of the US education system as if that has anything to do with this discussion.
We didn't exactly get the luck of the draw in the pairings with Italy and Czech Republic in our group but we'll live with it. Don't want to be labeled poor losers, ya know.
