Okay, a serious answer then.
I agree that it's probably harder for women than it is for men. I flirt with my girlfriends all the time, but we're not serious. It's just "safer" to flirt with the girls than it is the guys.
Especially if I'm not serious about the guy. The guy will always take it too seriously.
Maybe after a while you build up a "lesbo-dar" and can pick them out easier? Thus eliminating the awkward "does she even like girls" barrier.
Or meet people in a lesbian bar/club...
