I know enough about US history to understand the gun obsession, but damn if you could just see what it's like to live in a place where every home doesn't have a magnum, uzi or rocket launcher and somehow we survive. Here in America, uzis and rocket launchers are illegal and we have a clear understanding what Magnum means.
Besides, most gun deaths in America are ghetto on ghetto violence. I'm not willing to give up my right of gun ownership to keep the criminals from killing each other.
besides that, most Americans have that, home/homeland defense notion that should we ever be attacked, we'll rise up against any foe.
