I know enough about US history to understand the gun obsession, but damn if you could just see what it's like to live in a place where every home doesn't have a magnum, uzi or rocket launcher and somehow we survive. The ghetto people haven't risen up and taken over and the number of gun-related deaths is tiny compared to yours (and we still have very few home invasions - it's exceedingly rare).

But hey, it's your right so ... you reap what you sow.
