With your way if the site owner decides he no longer wants to allow us to hotlink the pic he may remove it and my link will lno longer work, whereas with your method he has no input , and gets no credit.. thats a bit unfair..

I understand what you're saying. I just think it is a HUGE downside doing it your way. The load time is horrendous friend.... horrendous. And there is simply no need to have that size of a file when one can crop and zoom right in on the focus of the picture and have it load way faster.
And in my way I have no fear of anyone "deciding not to host the picture any longer" because I upload it to one of my own webspace accounts or servers. If I want to give credit to anyone in particular (like I sometimes do, where applicable) I just put a courtesy link under the pic.
I timed the load of your pic up there, it's sometimes over 3 minutes. Crazy man. Crazy with a capital Z.
