I think you're way out in whacko-ville on this one my friend. :D
"Like downloading it 3 times"..... I could crop, size and optimize that pic so that it could be dowloading 5 times before viewing and it would 1) Still look great, and 2) load 10 times faster than what yours is taking.
Case in point: This version of your pic is cropped, is still quite large in size, AND is only 79 kb. And it doesn't look too bad...
And Smokey, really..... that bandwidth may be free to you, but I'm pretty sure that someone somewhere has to pay for it up the line. :D
