In organized hockey back then we all had to wear a helmet. But for just hacking around at the rinks and playing spongee with a bunch of guys no, no one wore a helmet for that. Anyone who did was labeled "the kid with the helmet"
Amazing that no one in my circle of friends from back then got any major head injuries.
