I bartended for a several years at various spots in L.A....
25% is a pretty solid tip for drinks... definitely on the higher-end, and worth a buy-back or two the next time you're in theplace if the bartender remembers you.
And, like pussyluver said, a straight-up c-note woulda made you more memorable.
Best way to get a bartender's attention (especially at a busy club) is to give him a $50 or $100 tip on your first drink, and tell him "take care of me tonight, and you'll have another on my way out the door".
Assuming you're not running the bartender to death, you won't wait for a drink all night.
