What was accomplished by their opposing various nominees they had problems with? Nothing. They were appointed anyway and the democrats gained little but plenty of negative newsplay as being against the best interests of America. The public doesn't seem to care enough (where the real problem lies) so why should they shoot themselves in the foot and lose the ability to do anything?
