Hi Lane,
The low carb - high protein diet works quite well for many people, but not everyone... My sister and my mother, along with a bunch of other people I've spoken to have really lost a lot of weight by lowering their carbs. Not only that, but they felt a LOT better as well. My sister used to always feel tired and run down, and once she cut the carbs out of her diet she had boundless energy, felt more clear headed, etc...
The one thing you need to be really aware of is the withdrawl process. Your body has been using carbs for fuel for your whole life, and it takes some time before it makes the switch to primarily burning fat for fuel. There's going to be a couple of weeks where you might feel horrible, but if you can stick it out and get past it you should do well.
I'm not a doctor, I don't play one on TV, and this kind of diet isn't for everyone. I tried it myself for a month and couldn't hack it. I was tired all the time and just felt horrible. So your milage may vary... The overwhelming results though are similar to what I told you above about my sister and my mother. They felt great, lost weight, cholesterol went down, improved blood sugar levels, etc...
Good luck with it. :-)
