I've been telling myself "
anything I make above my current average income is great as it's effectively free cash," but in reality I'm sure my lifestyle will step up to match that. It already did when I moved from a fledgling mainstream business to adult in 2001.
Still, it does motivate me some. I think of it this way: if I made an additional 50% (after tax) income, and put ALL of that extra into our (newish) home loan I could have it completely paid off within a few years.
The ironic thing is that if USD-AUD exchange rates were the same now as they were when I started in 2001 I would be making that 50% extra without even trying.
