President Bush had a direct effect on my life today.
I decided to take a "sanity day" today, so my daughter and I went for a bike ride. We ended up in West LA by the Federal Building and traffic started getting nuts.
I wanted to get on the 405 S at Wilshire, and the on-ramp was at a stop. It is a metered ramp, so even if there was a lot of traffic on the freeway it should at least be moving, but it wasn't.
Since the primary advantage of a bike in the city (besides parking) is the ability to weasel thru traffic I started working my way up the ramp only to discover LAPD there, not letting anyone get on the freeway.
I sent my daughter off to see what was going on, and apparently a motorcade with Bush was headed our way, so no one could get on until he passed. Had to sit there for about 15 minutes waiting for him to pass.
I figured that the freeway would at least be empty after they let us on, but no such luck. It is amazing what happens when you let a few 1,000 cars on the freeway at the same time.
