He was always a favorite player here in the DC area because he always worked hard. He was described as "The Best Canadian player to come out of (what was then) the USSR". The way he played the game was more suited to North America and the smaller ice (In Europe the ice is 32 meters across, in North America it's 27 meters across, I think.)
I actually have one of his game worn jerseys (autographed) in my collection of Capitals memorabilia.
