Remember Iran is supposedly democratic. Islam is a book of laws. Give Muslims the vote and eventually you have a theocratic state.
Is it possible to impose democracy on a society that is not ready for it? Take a country composed of 3 distinct factions, that was artificially created in the 1st place. Take away all the bureaucratic governing structure and expect the citizens to form a functioning government while in the midst of, for all practical purposes, a civil war is IMHO ludicrous.
