I agree...colors are a bit too bold. Less is more
Amazon or barnes and nobles dont have a lot of colors on their sites: http://www.amazon.com

Maybe just copy their basic color schemes

I dont like the rounded fonts and the logo looks like L23 Computer books.

Maybe put the search and mailing list boxes higher up on the columns.
