Drupal versus Wordpress.

Which one is best or is that even a fair question?

Thanks

There is no "best", but drupal is much harder to customize. Based on what I've seen of your posts I'd suggest WP.

Wordpress has really come a long way. A lot of people are using Wordpress for things they used to use Joomla or Drupal for.

Drupal has some cool features, but configuring them is another story.

The configuration, is it about writing code or filling out lots of values and having
to figure out what they mean etc.... or what?

Drupal is a framework to build a CMS.

Wordpress is a preexisting CMS.

Drupal is a whole different beast when compared to Wordpress.

It depends on your needs and particular situation. Keep in mind that there's so many plugins for WP that whatever drupal feature you like probably has a WP equivalent. With that said, it all depends on your situation.

If I need to do something in WP I look for a PlugIn.

If I need to do something in Drupal I do a course....

Wordpress: hard to code bcuz of minified code, easy for blogging and easy admin

Drupal I have never use it but its used for bigger sites, the coding thing I think its easier... I use joomla at work and joomla is a shit of code so..

The bigger question I have is why the hell does Huffington Post use moveable type and how the hell did they customize it so well?

It seems they have different blogs for every category: HuffPost Gay, HuffPost Latino, HuffPost Real Estate.

I have trouble updating one blog once every few days....

Both are a CMS
  • Wordpress is by far easier to install and work with than Drupal.
  • The default Drupal setup doesn't include a rich text editor in its content-creation screens, so any formatting you want to do has to be in HTML. You can add a module to get that functionality(not easy for new users)
  • Drupal requires module installs that are again not so easy for the new user

Drupal 7 has made it so that it is easier to create a Drupal website (in the past you had to pretty much be a coder) and it is expected they will add more user friendly tools.

Drupal is more of a framework CMS, therefore it only grows as developers fix and create things that matter most to them.

Bottom line - WP hands down is simpler to work with especially for newbies.

Very good info here from everybody.

Thanks!

I always write my website code from scratch; but I think I should move away
from that.

I guess it depends on project to project, using a framework can save time.

I thought Drupal was dead. So many companies were bailing on them since all the security exploits. I have worked with all three CMS scripts and Drupal is by far the worse. Joomla is ok, but it is a resource hog. If you have too many addons or mods it will drag on a virtual box.

Drupal is for developers and WordPress CMS is for content creators.
