Is shooting Still Image Content Still A Viable Business?

I know it is if you can sell it to Magazines but beyond that how many people still buy still content?

The reason I ask is I'm thinking about producing some high-quality softcore playboy to hustler solo, gg or even other niches.

I'm new to this but not to photography I already do erotic art, glamour etc... And I have done Adult Affiliate Marketing. But never put the two together. But if I can finance my Art with the content that would be great.

Any helpful suggestions, articles or ideas?

Thanks.

Hey

To be fair I'd never shoot still only content... is there a reason why you would ?

You've been misinformed if you've been told you can make a living shooting for magazines. For one thing, magazines are almost dead--there are very few left compared to 15 years ago; and for another thing, magazines take ages--months to years--to pay. I did a feature for a magazine back in the spring of 2009 and it didn't come out until the summer of 2011.

My best suggestion: go back to school and get a masters degree in something useful in the finance or healthcare related fields.

If you don't know how to sell content to magazines, you're not Paul Markham.

Definitely go for it.

You'll need to invest in one of these, though.

Set it for 1999.

Take a DSLR with you. You should be able to sell it for WAY more than you'll ever make shooting porn.

Well people still like to look at pictures, talking about that glamour style etc, not stills from porn flicks.

we still shoot a lot of stills - some clients still order more pic sets than videos

but no video at all? rarely.

I'm not an expert, but I would guess that if your pictures are really good, then you could license them for use to any reputable outfit that needs legal content, no?

Just an idea.

Got to love this answer...lol

I didn't ask for Career guidance. I have made over $1,000,000 online. So I'll pass on the going back to school thing.

I asked a simple question about the state of the content market.

The reason I don't want to start shooting video is that's not my goal with this. I have other plans I'm just looking for a way to monetize my current shoots until I get the other thing I'm working on off the ground.

I'm in this for the passion and art of it... So I'm not as concerned about the money. In other words If I can profit from shooting what I want to shoot great. But I'm not going to shoot cheesy amateur looking stuff, hardcore, or crazy niches etc. That you crank out like a factory. I have Zero interest in that.

I probably will just move ahead with my plans as is since this looks to be much less profitable.

Thanks for all of the input guys.

You can still sell stills yes but making a living doing it is real tough.

Shooting girl/girl without video is a waste of time, don't bother.

The only people that would have any interest in soft Playboy style images is the soft web sites such as Femjoy, Met Art, Twistys and the like. If you plan to do that you need to know what you are doing and who you are shooting. Shooting Chanel Preston in soft style images when they can see her in BG scenes all over the internet is a waste of time. So go find unknown, unseen super hot girls who have never done porn and maybe then you'll find some buyers. I'd buy content on those girls for my own stuff but not of pornstars in soft poses.

You also asked, "Any helpful suggestions, articles or ideas?" And that's what I gave you--a suggestion that you do something that has better long term prospects than shooting content for a market that's controlled by pirates. Good advice, I thought.

If you've got talent it can still work, e.g. Zishy http://www.wehateporn.com/2014/03/12...ls-march-2014/
