Not yet, but I've watched RISE of the Planet of the Apes a few times since its release in 2011, and it's GREAT.

If you pay really close attention to the TV and newspapers in the background of various scenes, you'll see they mention the Spaceship "Icarrus". Icarrus was Charlton Hestons space ship in Planet of the Apes in 1968. During RISE, The Icarrus is launched with 3 Astronauts, and then lost. Presumably, they have entered a time warp and come back to Earth to find Ceasers fate in DAWN. I really hope they carry this thread into the new movie.

I liked the last one. It was certainly better than the atrocity with Marky Mark.

Having watched the TV series for many years as a kid and the originals it's good to see how we finally became over run, enslaved and controlled through our own stupid actions.

Sick of digital cartoons. Every movie is a fucking cartoon now. Now we get more cartoon apes?

Bring back real costumes and real stunts.

With the millions of dollars the have for these movies can't they afford some real actors with top notch costumes and make up?

The apes in the failed Planet of the Apes in 2001 starring Wahlberg, directed by Tim Burton, was a terrible terrible film, but it had some great make up!

The apes in 2001 looked great, much better than these fucking digital cartoon monkeys.

The brain can detect real from fake, and real has a much better impact on the brain and the emotions while watching a film. These fake cartoon apes don't carry any weight in the emotional aspects and are just eye candy.

You're talking about something called the "Uncanny Valley" which is sort of a way of saying that CG characters that are very realistic, tend to look more fake.

CG artists are getting better at this. Tron Legacy was a good example, and RISE Of The Planet of the Apes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1318514/?ref_=nv_sr_2) looked PERFECT except for Baby Caesar in certain parts. If you haven't seen Rise, you should really watch it. The emotion in CG Caesar's face is perfect.

Just got back from seeing it (no spoilers). Thought it was great!

Really liked Rise but then again I would've liked almost anything after the debacle that was Marky Mark's version. Shudder and yuck.

I agree that CGI is ruining film tho. I predicted this after Jurassic Park. THAT film was great but I knew Hollywood would take it too far all in the name of cutting costs (and exerting complete 'artistic control').

Bring back Roddy-fucking-McDowell in his ape suit and mask yo.

See i always thought the effects in Jurassic Park 1 were much better than in parts 2 and 3.

Something just didn't seem right with those 2 movies...

Good movie, saw it yesterday. Great CGI, best I have seen. Entertainment is why I see a movie, not to pick it apart and I was entertained and want to see the next one. The story was very good I thought..

The first one was best, starred by Charles Heston. It suited for the time being, when apes were more just dumb animals and humans God's image. Now it is harder to watch these movies with Terminator-style Hollywood effects and at the same time keep serious face. And main thing that binds the chimpanzees and gorillas is that they belong to Hominidae- family (great apes), as does humans too. Planet of apes, where everybody is ape and belongs to the same taxonomy family. At least the name is correct.

Saw it tonight. Very good, but I liked RISE better. Plus, there was no mention of the missing spaceship. Me sad. Maybe in the next sequel.

Try not to think of it that way. The CG in the newest APES is by far the best I have ever seen. It doesn't just "look" real - it "IS" real. I was hooked from the very first frame and forgot all about what is CG or VFX.

The main reason that the artists go CG for a movie like this is that makeup and masks would hide the emotion. And this is probably the most emotional of the APES movie.

The only thing I didn't like about this movie were the other actors. Gary Oldman is boring and always plays the same old Gary Oldman. The other actors are nobodies except for Keri Russell. The real star is of course, Andy Serkis who has played every cool digital character in the past 13 years or so (He was Gollum!). It's about time he won an Oscar.
