** Dog Lovers: This industry doggie needs our help **

In the 15 years I've been in this industry I've never posted a thread about donating anything.

This doggie belongs to friends of ours. Friends in the community.

This doggie has had an unfortunate accident and needs 20 dollars, 50 dollars, a 100 dollars from each of us.

Anything helps. Doggies medical care is a few thousand dollars a day.

http://saveoursaint.com

I will leave it at that. I know there are people here who would be interested in helping this puppy get better, so at the risk of not posting something and doggies day turning out not so good, I decided that it's better to post than not post in this situation.

Thank you for your time.

E

$25,000 is a lot for one dog. You can buy 50 new dogs for that.

$25K for that kind of surgery? wtf. Even if I didn't use my insurance for our dog and it had to do surgery like that it would be no more than $6K tops.

Thanks to all who donated whatever you did.

Nice to see that the doggie is getting the funds that he needs.

Very serious medical situation with extended care down the road.

You're right, the surgeries are probably in the area of $10000-$2000 each (X3). It's the critical care that's expensive. Critical care is like being in the ICU and runs typically $1500-$2000 a night.

The vet needs to give in this case! My wife went through a similar procedure(gull bladder removal) $10,000.00 cash and went septic due to him missing a spot to sew up......
This vet should be donating his time and save this pup,....he needs to be accountable, period.

The way it reads, three unsuccessful attempts at stitching the poor guy up. The unforeseen with the dissoluble sutures at first operation, well this may be possible, but the second time, this falls on his or hers hands. I for one would think the vet would do the next procedure for the sake of the animal, not the money.

Yeah if you get all the money, I would take the dog to another vet. This one seems pretty incompetent. This is the hard thing to think about but are you keeping the dog alive and going thru all this pain for the dog or for yourself? I remember a vet telling me alot people kept an animal alive not for the animals sake but for their own and they went thru alot of unneeded pain. I lost my big lovable mutt two weeks ago to cancer and it stills hurts alot I hope for the best for you and your dog.

We spent over $40k keeping our Miniature Schnauzer alive. No amount of money is too much when it's a family member, which is what he was to us. (He ended up passing away last year.)

Agreed.

We have insurance on our guy. They pay 90% of everything. No questions asked. If what happened to this doggie would happen to our guy, we would still end up paying a lot of money out of pocket. At 2K per day, it adds up quickly.

This is not about the money being spent for his care, I get this and would do the same for any of mine the same.....this is about the botched procedures, and the fact that the professional is looking for more when his best is not enough?

That's news to me. Maybe it's time to find another vet?

My dog had similar hospital stays on more than 1 occasion and the bills were nowhere near this.

TBH, I thought this was a scam when I first saw it on FB. Once I found out who's dog it was, that thought went away. Now I believe it's a scam by the vet, not the old school GFYer who owns the dog.

Either way, I wish the best for the pooch and his owners.

You "own" your dog and love it like a child? Do you think it loves you because you're awesome?

I know mine simply likes me because I give it lots of attention and food. I've had several dogs and none of the ever cared how my day was going. They came up to me if they wanted to cuddle, be pet, play or eat. Otherwise they just laid around being bored like subordinate wolves. Asshole.

Is your vet a critical care facility? There's a big difference between an Animal Hospital (regular vet) and critical care. Animals in critical care are constantly being monitored 24-7. Blood work and all kinds of things are checked often and it just adds up very quickly. Typically a large urban center will only have a few critical care facilities and they're generally only used for after hours emergencies and patients that need constant monitoring and support. Again, it's the difference between being in a regular hospital ward and the ICU.

I don't know who this person is or what the circumstances really are surrounding it, but from what I did read it's quite possibility going to cost that much or more. I had a dog that narrowly survived a similar experience.

You guys don't know what you're talking about. If this dog really is at a critical care facility, it's probably already seeing some of the very best Vets around. What your suggesting is a little like checking out of the Mayo Clinic because you expect to get better care at a county hospital.

Once you've had Peritonitis caused by a rupture, it's not as simple as just open 'er up and stich 'er back together. The surgical site has to be reopened and you're basically trying to clean an infection out. Bacteria floods in to the system and it's just a real mess to deal with. You can't tell if you've cleaned it all up and a dog can be doing well one moment and crashing another which is why you need the constant monitoring and blood work.

Again, I don't know if THIS particular instance is a scam or just what's going on, but from what's been said it's not as simple as a Vet screwed up go to another clinic.

Yes it was a critical care type of facility. He was almost dead when he arrived after being attacked by 2 pit bulls. Massive amounts of surgery needed literally head to tail, 24/7 monitoring...the works.

Well then I guess there's some pretty reasonable pricing where you live for that kind of care.

Happily donated. I had to put my best pet down a few years ago.

They should make the goal today.

Is this EM's dog?

Doggie seems to be doing better. Eating at least now.

This is really great. Dogs won't normally eat if they are feeling really banged up and the water drinking is very encouraging too.

I love my dog, but I'll get another one that looks just like him.

I've got no problems with LA. I live in the burbs, and it's great. The pricing here is the same.

You can either live here or move. I'm staying. At least until I retire, then who knows. Spain maybe.

It is what it is.

I have helped one back from parvo, Pipe, he came up from a storm drain, scrambled eggs mixed with sardines and pediolite brought him back around....or the doc was going to hook him up to a drip.....at a nice profit.

Fantastic news for the pup, and a good sign he has an appetite.
Thank you for the update
